What is in this guide?
This guide is designed to help you find research to use in your third body paragraph - imagining directions for further research on your chosen topic. The main box below has links to library resources and journals that can be used to find ideas for future directions.
Relevant Databases & Journals
- Articles+For more general articles, try limiting to newspapers only. Newspaper articles are written for a less technical audience.
- PsycInfoPsycInfo is a huge collection of articles, including many experiments with suggestions for future directions and research. Limit your search by Methodology (empirical and quantitative) to get only articles that cover experiments. While the articles are sometimes very technical, they often provide suggestions for future research at the end.
- Annual ReviewsAnnual Reviews are written each year in a variety of subjects. They provide an overview of what was accomplished in a field in a given year, and often suggest what upcoming years may hold as well. Those sections can be very useful for gathering ideas for future research. Be sure to select the subject area you want to search on the first page. Neuroscience and Psychology are good places to start for this class.
- Frontiers in Cognitive ScienceWhile not always written in the simplest language, the Frontiers journals focus on publishing about new experimental results. The articles are often about new and expanding areas, ripe for further experimentation.
- Popular ScienceAnother great source of relatively non-technical writing. Often mentions future directions for research. Also browsable at popsci.com/archives
