Adding References to EndNote: Scopus

On Campus Access: Electronic resources are accessible on-campus. Faculty, students and staff must register personal laptops and mobile devices with UNC-Chapel Hill ITS.

UNC Hospitals Access: Always use links from Library websites. Onyen log-in is required when you first select the resource. Note: UpToDate is available within EPIC.

Off Campus Access: Always use links from Library websites. Onyen log-in is required when you first select the resource. Most electronic resources are accessible off-campus to students, faculty, and staff, including UNC Hospitals' staff.

Exporting References from Scopus

Mac Users: When working with EndNote on a Mac, you must use Mozilla Firefox as your browser to enable Direct Export (automatic downloads) of references from electronic databases (PubMed, Web of Science, etc.) to your EndNote library.

  1. Conduct a search in Scopus.
  2. Check the boxes next to articles for the citations you wish to export to your EndNote library.  If you're conducting multiple searches, save items to My List, a temporary storage space in Scopus.  You can do this by selecting Add to My List at the top of your results list.

    To view the items in My List, click on the link in the menu bar at the top of the page. 

  3. Once you are ready to export your results, click Export at the top of your results or My List.
  4. A pop-up box will appear, asking you to choose your default reference manager or file type.  Choose RIS format.  Select the desired information to export from the drop-down menu.  Click Export.

  5. A dialog box will appear prompting you to either "Open" or "Save" the text file that you are creating.
  6. Choose the Open with radio button and select EndNote X6 from the drop-down menu. If a drop-down menu is not present, then click Browse... and choose EndNote X6 from the options provided.  Then, click OK.

Your citations will automatically appear in your EndNote library.  If you do not already have EndNote open, your computer will open your EndNote library.

Important: Check all citations for accuracy prior to sorting into groups.
