(Allied) Health Sciences Scholarships, Fellowships, Grants, & Awards: Alumni

Resources, hints, advice, and tools (including lots of links) for Allied Health Sciences and other students.

Created by Health Science Librarians

Note to Alumni/Former UNC-Chapel Hill Students

Most of the resources and links contained in this guide--and particularly those that will be most useful to alumni and former students--are freely available, including governmental (.gov) resources and links, external resource links, commercial scholarship databases, glossaries, loan forgiveness and loan repayment & postponement information.

A few resources (most pertinent to current and prospective students) are available just to currently enrolled UNC-Chapel Hill students and UNC faculty and staff, requiring authentication using a UNC-Chapel Hill Onyen/password. These include the Testing & Education Reference Center (TERC) on the SEARCH page, the Financial Management for College Students guide, and print resources available in our libraries (such as the Directories located on our Reference shelves at the Health Sciences Library).

In addition to the freely available resources in this Guide, you may use most of the restricted and print resources while visiting our campus. Please check your current academic institution or public library to see if they have TERC (Testing & Education Reference Center) or similar resources such as the RSP Funding databases from Reference Service Press.

Especially for alumni and former students

Alumni and former students should pay particular attention to the Loan Repayment & Postponement and Loan Forgiveness sections of this guide linked in the side navigation.

Don't forget to consult IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education to see how you might benefit from federal income tax credits for education expenses. Your state may have additional tax credits.

FIRST
Although developed by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) for medical students/residents, this site has valuable information and tools that can be used by others.  Some programs will apply just to medical students/residents; many others will also be applicable to allied health students and graduates.  For example, the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) State Loan Repayment Plan (SLRP), which helps fund more than 30 states to operate educational loan repayment programs in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA's), includes mental health practitioners, including psychologists and counselors, in some states.
