RefWorks is web-based and can be accessed from anywhere there is web access. Multiple users can log into the same RefWorks account if you are all affiliated with UNC. This access is free to all UNC-CH faculty, staff, currently enrolled students and alumni.
EndNote is installed on your computer or network. EndNote Web, a version of EndNote that is free for UNC affiliates, allows you to access your references when you are away from your computer. The program is available for purchase from UNC Student Stores. Some departments and schools make EndNote software available to their faculty and staff.
Mendeley is a free reference manager and academic social network that can help you organize your research, collaborate with others online, and discover the latest research.
Zotero is a free citation manager that can be downloaded as an add-on to Firefox or as a stand-alone application that can work with other browsers.
