Software Support

There are many different programs that can be used for image editing.  Here are a few that the MDS team recommends:

  • Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard for imaging professionals, but it is challenging to use and expensive.
  • Adobe Photoshop Elements is an excellent, user friendly program that has much of the power of Photoshop.
  • iPhoto is an easy-to-use image editing program for the Macintosh. It comes free with every new Macintosh computer.
  • Picasa is free photo editing software from Google.

Adobe products are available to UNC students for free through UNC ITS Software Distribution.  If you're a first time Photoshop user, try out our Introduction to Photoshop online tutorial in order to learn the basics.
