Chinese Research and Bibliographic Methods for Beginners: Navigating UNC Libraries

UNC catalog search

Searchable using Chinese as well as a romanized script for Chinese resources. All the computers in Davis Library are able to input Chinese scripts.

  • If your item is not available at UNC, try TRLN (Triangle Research Libraries Network).
    Search TRLN provides a single search interface to the TRLN Libraries' Collections.
  • If it is not within the libraries of TRLN, try WorldCat.
    WorldCat is a worldwide catalog of books, articles, visual materials, etc.
  • Quickly find primary sources in our catalog by using the faceted "Genre" search (video).

Imputting Chinese Characters

How do I Switch the Keyboard to Another Language's Characters?
All of the computers in the Information Commons and Reference Area of the Undergraduate Library and Davis Library are set up to toggle between English (United States), Russian, Chinese (PRC), Japanese, and Korean keyboard characters.

Locate East Asian Materials

Locations of East Asian materials in Davis Library

  • Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK中日韓) materials are shelved in library stacks by call numbers. Call numbers appear on the book label or in catalog records in form like DS721.Z478 2010.
  • Call numbers represent subjects of library materials and are assigned to library materials in accordance with the Library of Congress Classification Scheme.
  • Davis Library does not shelve Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK中日韓) materials separately from materials in other languages, but integrates all library materials by call number (subject).

The majority of Chinese/Japanese/Korean (中日韓) materials are on the following floors at Davis Library:
