Univarsity Film Series

Created in 2010 by two UNC Professors the University Film Series screens films at Chapel Hill's Varsity Theater. The films all fit into a chosen theme for each semester.

Center for Documentary Studies

Started in 1989 the first institution in the US dedicated to teaching, producing, and presenting documentary film.

Ackland Film Fourm


The Ackland Film Forum is a collaboration between the Ackland Art Museum and numerous departments at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill highlighting different aspects of the art of cinema and showcasing the aesthetic power of film. Art films, narrative films, and documentaries are chosen by UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and Ackland staff, often in connection with particular courses, campus-wide initiatives, or exhibitions.

When: Select Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:00 PM
Where: Varsity Theatre, 123 E. Franklin Street, Downtown Chapel Hill
Tickets: Students free with valid university or high school ID, $4 for all others. Tickets are available at the Varsity Theatre Box Office.
