When you create a project in Final Cut Pro, you need to set a Scratch Disk. If Final Cut Pro isn't opening, double check that you have set a Scratch Disk properly. Follow these instructions on how to set a Scratch Disk.
1. Go to the top menu bar, and under Final Cut Pro, select Audio/Video Settings.
3. Click on the A/V Devices tab.
4. In the Playback Output->Audio drop-down menu, pick Default.
5. Click OK.
If you are importing VHS footage and not hearing sound, make sure the DV deck is on and the speakers are turned up.
If you have followed the instructions on importing VHS footage and no video is appearing in your Log and Capture window, then you should check the Capture Settings. Make sure Capture Settings is set to Firewire NTSC and DV NTSC 48khz. Following the instructions for capturing the VHS footage, and make sure your footage is added to your Bin as a new clip.
