Royal Society of Chemistry Gold for Gold

Gold for Gold is a program from the RSC that enables researchers to publish their paper in RSC journals free of charge, as a Gold Open Access (OA) article, without paying the normal Article Publication Fee (APF).

  • The RSC Gold for Gold initiative rewards all institutions that subscribe to RSC Gold with voucher codes to make papers available via OA, free of charge.
  • The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill has vouchers available by contacting the library.

To be eligible for the OA Gold for Gold publishing voucher:

  • The article must be a new, unpublished work that has received final approval for publication in a RSC journal. A voucher code cannot be used until an article has been accepted.
  • One of the authors of the article must be a current researcher at UNC-Chapel Hill.
  • Vouchers will be supplied until the annual allocation from RSC has been exhausted.

To take advantage of this program the author needs to:

  • Request a voucher code by emailing kenan-library@listserv.unc.edu
  • Fill out the online application form
    • the "manuscript ID" required on the application form is the 10 digit alphanumeric part of the DOI that follows the /.  As an example: DOI: 10.1039/C4CC10159F
  • Sign a License to Publish agreement.
    • Authors may choose between the Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) or the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial (CC -BY-NC) general licenses for most of the journals.

    • Special versions of these licenses are for Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics (PCCP)Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences (PPS) and New Journal of Chemistry (NJC).

Americian Chemical Society Author Programs

ACS Author Rewards is an open access stimulus program which gives two rewards, worth $750 each (a total value of $1,500) for each article published in an ACS journal in 2014.  There is no limit to the number of rewards an author can earn.

Published corresponding authors will receive an email containing their ACS Author Rewards in the form of a promotional code. Rewards can be redeemed against the cost of any ACS AuthorChoice option to make articles openly available. Use your ACS Author Rewards to comply with a funder’s open access requirements or to support global public access for your published article.

BioMed Central

BioMed Central publishes 274 peer-reviewed open access journals in Science,Technology and Medicine. The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill is a Supporter Member affording authors a 15% discount on the article-processing charges in any BioMed Central journal.
