Department of Allied Health Sciences

 

Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling
Accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE)

Speech and Hearing Sciences
The Clinical Doctorate in Audiology is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE)
The 2016 standards mention “…the value of inter-professional education and collaboration for patient care.” Page 9, Professional Responsibilities and Values (17 competencies) no. 11.

The Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Revised standards will become effective August 1, 2017.

Includes ‘interprofessional’ in 3.1.1A Professional Practice Competencies. Also uses ‘interdisciplinary.’

 

School of Dentistry

Accredited by the ADA (American Dental Association) CODA (Commission on Dental Accreditation)
The accreditation standards don’t use ‘interprofessional’ but do address the concept with terms like ‘collaboration with other healthcare professionals’ and ‘interdisciplinary teams.’

School of Medicine
Accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
The standards effective 2017-2018, published in March 2016, include a brief section ‘Interprofessional Collaborative Skills’ section 7.9.

 

Department of Anesthesiology
Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
Common Program Requirements include language such as: ‘interdisciplinary’ ‘interprofessional teams’ ‘communicate effectively with…other health professionals.’

 

School of Nursing
There are several accrediting bodies for the School of Nursing.
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) includes information throughout the Criteria for Evaluation on Nurse Practitioner Programs (2016) on interprofessional education, IPE and team-based models of care. Criterion IV.B.1 includes a recommendation for the inclusion of IPE.

 

School of Pharmacy
Accredited by the ACPE (Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education) School of Pharmacy accreditation information.
ACPE accreditation standards.
IPE is listed at standard 11.
Interprofessional concepts are mentioned throughout.

 

School of Public Health
The Gillings School of Global Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)
Accreditation criteria and procedures.
Mentions 'interdisciplinary communication.'
 

School of Social Work
Accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Section, Evaluation Policy M2.2 – Advanced Practice, includes “…interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary knowledge and skills.”
