Hi all! I’m Jamie, a Health Sciences Librarian here at the UNC Health Sciences Library. I’m also the Liaison to the School of Nursing, both the Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynecology Departments, and the Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice. In these roles, I meet with students, faculty, and staff to talk about research projects and evidence-based patient care. I enjoy helping frame the scope of an investigation, search existing literature, determine gaps, and move forward in filling those gaps.

My Story of How I Became a Librarian

In my early 20’s, I had an ah-ha moment in which I had the idea to work in a library as a way to bring together my love of discovery, curiosity, and helping others. I started out by shelving books in a public library and progressed through many roles: checking out books, recommending reading materials, teaching computer classes, cataloging, introducing people of all ages to information tools, and more.

While working in libraries throughout college, I studied literature and dove into stories around life and death, gender, race, and humanity across the centuries. I later studied ecology and biology as I strove to understand our planet and how to make it a healthy one. I approach life and my library practice through mindfulness and a sustainability lens, considering the environment, economics, and social justice while trying to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same.
