To search for books by a literary author, search the catalog for the author as "Author." To search for books about a literary author, search for the author as "Subject."

To find books on a particular topic use a keyword search to identify several relevant books. Then look at the Full Records of these books to identify relevant Library of Congress Subject Headings to potentially expand your search. If no one subject heading contains all the elements of your search, you may still have identified the terminology of the subject indexing. However, sometimes keyword may be superior.
