CMEIS promotes understanding of the Middle East through teaching, research, and community outreach. Our center is distinguished by its cross-regional approach to Middle East studies, one that breaks down area studies barriers in order to track global flows of ideas, commodities, and people.
In addition to the extensive collections for Middle East Studies in English and Western languages, in 2011, UNC has begun to systematically expand its collections for this part of the world to build core current and retrospective holdings in Arabic, Turkish, and Hebrew as well as assume a TRLN consortial commitment for Farsi-language resources.
UNC also has begun to expand its vernacular collections to include resources beyond print books and journals, while continuing it long-standing special commitment to acquire films related to the Middle East.
