Copying VHS to DVD, or Duplicating Media Discs

Please email mrc@unc.edu to set up a time to come in and receive training on how to use the equipment. The basic steps are outlined below. (Please note, while we are all working remotely the equipment is unavailable. If you have questions feel free to reach out to mrc@unc.edu)

Copy VHS to DVD

  • Insert the VHS tape and a blank DVD in the Toshiba VHS/DVD unit. Be sure to rewind the VHS tape before attempting transfer.
  • Press the “Dubbing” button on the Toshiba remote.
  • The VHS tape will play on screen as it captures the footage. Press “Stop” when finished.
  • Wait for the process on screen to complete.
  • Press “Setup” on the Toshiba remote, go to the DVD menu and select “Finalize.”
  • Wait for the process on screen to complete.

Copy CD/DVD

  • Power on the Octave Copy Master by pressing the power button in the lower right corner on the front of the unit.
  • Press the “Copy” button.
  • Insert your source material in the top tray labeled Asus.
  • Insert desired number of blank discs in the additional trays.
  • Display should read “Disc detected. Go?” when trays are closed.
  • Press the “Ent” button.
  • Wait for the process to complete.
