Stacy Torian, MLIS, MA (she/her)
As a health sciences librarian, I offer research consultations and lead instructional sessions for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. In addition, I review and develop library resources in collaboration with library colleagues and campus partners. When developing resources, I strive to highlight underrepresented perspectives and encourage critical thinking. My areas of interest include health disparities, social determinants of health, the health of LGBTQIA+ individuals, the health of African Americans, and the history of librarianship.
Before becoming a librarian, I held administrative support positions at the Duke University School of Nursing, Duke University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the Carolina Health Informatics Program at UNC-Chapel Hill. I have also tutored adult literacy and taught English to speakers of other languages. My librarianship practice is informed by all of these experiences, as well by my study of history, political science, race relations, feminism, and information literacy.
