Engagement, Inclusion, Recruitment, and Retention in Research Studies: Recruitment Assistance for Study Teams

If you need in-person assistance with stakeholder engagement, recruitment planning, or recruitment execution for your study, UNC has a wide variety of resources available to study teams.

All of the NC TraCS services listed can work together to get you the needed resources for success. Feel free to contact one of these to start and we can connect you appropriately. You may find one or more of the following useful:

Recruitment and Retention (R&R)

Recruitment and Retention is a free service offered through NC TraCS. Get help with recruitment and retention at any phase in the lifecycle of a research study or clinical trial. We offer consultations, tailored recommendations, professional development, and customized services to help you meet your recruitment goals and to retain participants through study completion.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement (CaSE)

Community and Stakeholder Engagement is a service of NC TraCS, offering both free and fee-based resources to help build partnerships between communities, researchers, and health care providers. CaSE can help facilitate engagement between researchers and community partners to guide study design and execution, assist with novel approaches to engagement and implementation sciences, and provide expertise on best practices of stakeholder-engaged research.

Inclusive Science Program (ISP)

Inclusive Science Program (formerly "Integrating Special Populations") is a free service of NC TraCS. ISP can provide investigators with access to experts, resources, and education to facilitate study design and execution with a specific consideration for the inclusion of diverse and historically underrepresented populations in research.

Research Coordination and Management Unit (RCMU)

The Research Coordination and Management Unit is a fee-based service offered through NC TraCS. The RCMU offers experienced coordinators to investigators and can be utilized to perform full study management, to assist with specific study components, or to fill-in for regular staff as needed.

Informatics and Data Science (IDSci)

Informatics and Data Science is a service of NC TraCS, offering both free and fee-based resources to support study teams with innovative technology and advanced analytics. IDSci can provide you with everything from datasets, to curated patient lists for contact, to custom builds to expand Epic research capability, in addition to many other tools.

Office of Research Support and Compliance (ORSC)

The Office of Research Support and Compliance is part of the UNC Health Care System and acts as a liaison between research teams and UNC Health Care entities and the UNC Physicians Network. The office’s website https://unchcs.intranet.unchealthcare.org/dept/ORSC/Pages/default.aspx is available to those working for the university who have access to EPIC and to UNC Health Care System (UNCHCS) network entities (UNC Physicians Network and our HCS community partners and hospitals). ORSC has varying contracts in place with each site and Project Managers on site at the entity locations to help navigate research relationships.

HSL Health Literacy Librarian

The UNC Health Sciences Library has a dedicated Community Engagment and Health Literacy Librarian, Terri Ottosen. She can provide assistance with material evaluation, study messaging, health literacy assessments, and health communication methodology.
