ENGL105 - Locating Literary Analysis: Finding the texts

There are many web sites for online collections of literary fiction, many of which include short stories. Below is a small selection from what is available. Also, a Google search may turn up online versions of a short story (e.g., Faulkner and Barn Burning). However, as with all free web sites, it may be difficult to determine the accuracy and authenticity of the material.

• Alex Catalogue of Electronic Texts

  Focuses on public domain English and American literature.
• Electronic Text Collections in Western European Literature

  From the Electronic Text Center at the University of Virginia, this source includes a general literary collection that is not limited to short fiction.

Searching the catalog for short stories:

• Change the drop-down menu at the top from "All Fields" to "Author"
• Search for your author's full name
• On the left sidebar, find the "About Topic" filter
• Click on more, and select "short stories" 

How to read a Library of Congress Call Number 

Short stories by English authors will be in the PR Library of Congress section, and short stories by American authors will be in the PS Library of Congress section. These will all be found on the 7th and 8th floors of Davis Library.
