This online workshop will look at how to leverage generative AI to help you in your research. The workshop will focus on incorporating Microsoft 365 Copilot into your research workflow, plus looking at other generative AI products that can help speed up your research.

Writing Effective Generative AI Prompts

Description: Not sure how to get started with generative AI? This online workshop will help you practice writing prompts to get the results you need. Attendees are encouraged to login with their Onyen prior to the workshop at Copilot (click Sign In and then, depending on the prompts, EITHER select “Login with a work or school account” and login with your Onyen OR enter your onyen@ad.unc.edu email address and login with your Onyen).
Note: Copilot works best in the Edge browser.

Copyright and Ethical Considerations with Generative AI

Literature Reviews with an AI-ssist: A Hands-on GenAI Workshop

IN PERSON, Health Sciences Library Room 215

Description: New to lit reviews, GenAI, or both? This session will explore generative AI tools that can (reliably!) be used for literature reviews, especially for health sciences research. Learn strategies for GenAI prompting, tools to help locate research articles, and ways that GenAI can support efficient literature review workflows. You’ll also have time to explore tools like ChatGPT and Semantic Scholar in a sandbox-style working session, so bring your laptop. Registration is appreciated but walk-ins are welcome.

Generative AI Course

Course Title: IDST290.001 - Generative AI: Implications and Practical Applications 

When it is Offered: Spring 2025 Semester

Course Overview
This course provides students with practical skills to effectively use major generative AI tools, both across disciplines and within their specific fields. It covers the history and workings of these tools while helping students identify and interpret key issues related to their use. 

Who Should Take This Course
This course is ideal for students who are not exposed to generative AI through their regular studies, or for those graduating this spring who feel unprepared to use AI tools or discuss them with potential employers. All students will benefit from building a shared understanding of the AI tools they'll encounter during their time at Carolina. 

Prerequisites
This course is intended for students with limited experience using Gen AI tools, regardless of major. 

Course Format
To ensure accessibility, the course is offered as a 1-hour, online, asynchronous class. Grading will be based on a Pass/Low Pass/Fail scale.
