Library Services for ECON Graduate Students: Support for Research & Teaching

Why Go Beyond Google Scholar

Google Scholar and the library's Articles+ search tool are good starting places. But to search most efficiently and effectively, you should also use subject-specific databases!

Top benefits of subject databases:

  1. Curated and focused content libraries. Your search, by definition, will return a higher quantity of relevant quality articles.
  2. Robust search features and filters. Customize your search and results way more than you can in Google Scholar.
  3. Get past the paywall! Use the library link to access from anywhere- just log in with your ONYEN

Course Development

As the political science librarian, I can:

  1. Help you identify relevant content for your courses:
  2. Help determine if the library has the right resources for a particular assignment
  3. Create a customized research guide integrated into your Canvas course site.

Research Instruction

I offer instructional design consultations for research assignments:

  • Scaffold the teaching of research skills to improve student success
  • Develop learning activities to teach navigating and evaluating resources, finding datasets, writing literature reviews, etc.

I teach in-class research workshops on topics like:

  • "Research as Process": students learn about writing a research question, evaluating sources, searching for datasets, and more.
  • Or a custom-designed workshop for your course
