The Durham Morning Herald is our largest collection of newspaper photographs. These photographs included those that were printed in the newspaper, alternates of pictures that were printed, as well as pictures that were taken but never printed. While these photos have been made keyword searchable, finding specific pictures may not be easy. Occasionally photos can be mislabeled. Tenacity is important when dealing with newspaper collections.

The finding aid for the Durham Herald collection can be found here: https://finding-aids.lib.unc.edu/P0105/. The finding aid contains a small number of photographs from the collection that have already been digitized, but the bulk of the entries must be located by date and title.

The newspapers can also be accessed digitally through newspapers.com. This digital resource is pay-walled and has to be used on campus or accessed by someone who has some sort of institutional affiliation.
