Finding Photographs at Wilson Special Collections Library: Searching by Subject Heading

Subject headings from the William Jasper Stimson and Benjamin Alston Stimson Photographic Collection, circa 1890s-1960s

Many of our collections that hold photographs can be found by searching subject headings in the UNC library catalog. While photographs may not be specifically called out in the finding aid, our staff have tried to ensure that any collection with photographs can be found at the relevant subject heading followed by "-- Photographs". For example:

"African Americans -- North Carolina -- Photographs"

Subject headings are categories created by the Library of Congress. A full list of all LoC subject headings can be found here, and a searchable list of all LoC subject headings can be found here. 

Photographs and collections often fall under multiple subject headings.
