Library Data Services

Library Data Services caters to researchers interested in working with data, mapping, texts, visualization, and technology. Many of these services are available online. Davis Library Data Services, located on the second floor of Davis Library, offers:

A computing lab with specialized software for GIS and data visualization & analysis.
Walk-in assistance provided by knowledgeable student consultants during set hours.
Consultations with specialists for more in-depth inquiries (by appointment).
Spaces for collaboration and presentation, complete with white boards and external displays.
Technology short courses and programs that promote digital scholarship.

Research Data Management & Sharing MOOC
Course jointly developed by the School of Information and Library Science (SILS), the Odum Institute, the University Libraries at UNC, and EDINA at the University of Edinburgh. Launched March 2016.

Campus-specific resources for understanding data management and developing data management plans.
DMPTool
Guided system from the California Digital Library for creating data management plans. You can sign in with your UNC Onyen to view information customized for UNC.

Deposit at UNC

Carolina Digital Repository
Accepts the products of UNC research, including open access materials among others. Deposits are free of charge.
Odum Institute Dataverse
Searchable data repository of quantitative data including historical Harris Polls and North Carolina Vital Statistics. Accepts datasets from UNC researchers free of charge.

re3data.org
A global registry of research data repositories that covers research data repositories from different academic disciplines. It presents repositories for the permanent storage and access of data sets to researchers, funding bodies, publishers and scholarly institutions. re3data.org promotes a culture of sharing, increased access and better visibility of research data.
