In addition to donations and general volunteering, there are a number of ways in which law students and lawyers can help those impacted by Hurricane Helene.
On October 1, 2024, the Supreme Court of North Carolina passed a temporary rule to allow non-North Carolina lawyers to provide pro bono legal services to Helene victims. Under this rule, lawyers licensed in other states may register via a Registration Form to begin immediately providing pro bono legal services through a legal services organization to indigent residents of North Carolina who are victims of Helene.
The North Carolina Bar Foundation maintains a NC Disaster Legal Services Volunteer Sign-up in order to connect NC-licensed attorneys, out-of-state licensed attorneys, paralegals, and law students with North Carolinians impacted by Helene.
