Using eBooks at UNC

How to locate, access, and navigate ebooks through the UNC Libraries collection

There are thousands of ebooks to search and browse within this collection whether users are studying or conducting legal research.

Study Aids

The LexisNexis Digital Library includes a large selection of digital study aids from the following series:

  • Understanding Series

  • Questions & Answers Series

  • Mastering Series

  • Skills & Values Series

  • Audio Study Guides

  • Carolina Academic Press

    • eg, The Complete Legal Writer, The Complete Bar Writer, and North Carolina Legal Research

Practice Manuals & Treatises

In addition to study aids, this library contains a large selection of North Carolina treatises, practice guides, and monographs on many different areas of law. It also contains a collection of publications by the American Bar Association on a range of practical topics of interest for attorneys.

Access

Personalized Access with ONYEN and Password

The LexisNexis Digital Library for UNC Law is available here. Click on the red "SIGN IN" button to be routed to the login page requesting your UNC Law ONYEN and password.

This will take you to your personalized homepage for the digital library. You do not need to create an additional account to utilize the personalized features of this library - your UNC Law credentials serve this purpose.

Navigation

Finding eBooks - Browsing

Select the "Browse Library" option on the lefthand menu to see ebooks organized by series. At the bottom of the page, a list of legal areas allows the user to browse by subject.

Your personalized digital library homepage will default to a banner of recently read titles for browsing. Selecting "My Books" from the menu also identifies recently viewed, borrowed, and downloaded titles.

 

Finding eBooks - Keyword Searching

Keyword search a title, author, or subject area in the search bar at the top of the digital library homepage to see a list of ebooks that match your search terms.

Special Features

Special Features & App

The personalized digital library offers a number of special features, including note taking, tagging, and downloading of content.

Consider downloading the Digital Library App for easier reading, online or offline.

Offline Reading

Download the Digital Library app for your apple or android device, enter your library code (UNC), then follow the prompts to sign in.

Make sure to search for titles in the app while online, then click the download link to have access to the title offline. Go to the "My Books" page of the app and click "Read" to open a book.

Any notes or highlights made on the book will be included in the original download, while any additional notes and highlights will sync the next time you connect online.

Hyperlinks

While reading ebooks in the digital library, you'll notice hyperlinked text. Blue links navigate to table of contents locations with the ebook, and green links take you outside the ebook to Lexis+.

 

Reading Tools

The digital library provides many options while reading a book:

  • Print the current section of the book

  • Highlight text and add notes

    • Utilize the Annotations icon to view notes and highlights

    • Export Annotations

  • Search within the book

  • Copy book text with citations

  • Navigate via the Table of Contents
