A guide to resources for law journal staff members at UNC School of Law.

Interlibrary Loan

How To Make an Interlibrary Loan Request

  1. Determine if the item is available on campus by checking the library catalog for the item. For items that are available in any of the UNC campus libraries, follow the instructions for campus delivery below.
  2. If the item is not available on campus, search TRLN to see if the item is available at Duke, NCSU, or NCCU. For items that are available, click the request button and login as a UNC Chapel Hill Law affiliate and submit your request.
  3. If the item is not available on campus or TRLN, submit an ILL request. Access your Interlibrary Loan account (ILLiad) through the Law Library website here. If you have never used ILLiad before, create an account. If you are a returning user, login with your Onyen and password.
  4. Once you have logged into your ILLiad account, you may submit a loan request for an item or a photocopy request. Loan requests are for books, microfilm, etc. Photocopy requests are copies of articles that are not available online as PDFs. Do not request copies of newspaper articles.
  5. Allow two to three weeks for your materials to arrive. Please be patient. Materials from Duke, NCSU, or NCCU typically arrive in three business days.
  6. Pick up items from the circulation desk when you receive an email that your item has arrived. A link will be provided if your item was received electronically.
  7. Return items immediately if you receive an email asking you to return the item.

Campus Delivery

How To Make a Campus Delivery Request

  1. If you located your item in the UNC library catalog above, you can have the item delivered to the UNC Law Library.
  2. If the catalog lists the item as available, you can request the item by clicking on the request button and logging into your Interlibrary Loan account (ILLiad). If the item is checked out, you can recall the item or request it from a TRLN library.
  3. If you have never used ILLiad before, you must create an account before you can request something. Once you have an account created, login using your Onyen and password. Be sure to create an account and login as a Law Affiliate so that your request will be processed by the Law Library.
  4. Submit your request. It may take 2-3 days to receive the item at the Law Library Circulation Desk. You will receive email notification when it is available for pickup. The item can be checked out with your OneCard.
  5. Be sure to keep up with due dates for items checked out in your name.
  6. You can return any book checked out from a campus library to the Law Library Circulation Desk.
