School of Medicine Office of Inclusive Excellence

Established February 2017, the office provides coordination, oversight and leadership for SOM’s diversity and inclusion programs and leads school efforts to build a diverse faculty and inclusive environment... It works with institutional leaders to enhance efforts toward increased diversity and inclusion, intersecting with all areas of the institution (e.g., admissions, HR, faculty recruitment, professional development, academic leadership and institutional advancement, UNC Health Care Exec. Dir. of Diversity and Inclusion).  

The Office promotes and advances diversity and inclusion for faculty, trainees (in graduate medical education programs and other graduate education and training programs within SOM), students, and SOM staff.

  • DEI Path Forward Plan: executed during the Summer of 2020, united faculty, staff, trainees and students across the School of Medicine to create a path forward. Page includes tools to aid small group discussions. 
  • DEI Framework and action items: the School of Medicine’s strategy to grow and sustain a more diverse and inclusive working and learning environment that improves the health and wellbeing of North Carolinians and others whom we serve.
