To create a new guide, go to the LibGuides homepage and select Create Guide in the LibGuide Shortcuts Box.

- To create a blank guide, use the Choose Layout or Reuse dropdown menu to select 'Start Fresh'.
- Give your guide a descriptive title. See Guide Groups and Templates for proper guide naming conventions.
- Select the appropriate type for your guide. Learn more about Guide Types.
- Next, select the group your guide should be added to. See Guide Groups and Templates for guide group descriptions, or contact Nora Burmeister to discuss the appropriate group.
- For Academic Process, Course, Subject, Current Topic, Librarian Profile, HSL Academic Process and Internal Staff groups, there is no need to select a template from the dropdown options. Template will be inherited from group settings.
- For Data Service, Design & Creation, Collections, HSL Professionals groups, select a guide template with a title that matches the group assignment. For example, if creating a Data Services guide, select either the Data Service - 1 column, or the Data Service - 2 column template.
- NOTE: If selecting a 1 column template, you will need to add a page for contact information, as there will be no sidebar to display librarian contact info. See Digitized Historical Maps as an example.
- In the Share Guide Content toggle, select Internal if you want your guide to be shared as a reusable template for other UNC Chapel Hill Libraries' LibGuide owners. Select No if you do not want your guide to be reusable.
