The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor is the principal Federal agency responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy. Its mission is to collect, analyze, and disseminate essential economic information to support public and private decision-making. As an independent statistical agency, BLS serves its diverse user communities by providing products and services that are objective, timely, accurate, and relevant.

"State data presenting the number and frequency of work-related injuries, illnesses, and fatal injuries are available from two BLS programs: nonfatal cases of work-related injuries and illnesses that are recorded by employers under the Occupational safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) recordkeeping guidelines are available for 46 States and Territories from the BLS Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses (SOII); fatal cases of work-related injuries are available for all States, Territories, and New York City under a separate program, the BLS Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI)."

"For more than five decades, the Equal Employment Opportunity Tabulations have served as the primary external benchmark for comparing the race, ethnicity, and sex composition of an organization's internal workforce, and the analogous external labor market, within a specified geography and job category. These are also used by organizations to develop and update their affirmative action plans."

Includes the Occupational Fatality Investigation Review: "The OFIR Report is compiled based on the event date by federal fiscal year (October 1 - September 30). The report lists only those workplace fatalities that have been or are being investigated by OSH. The report lists fatality investigations by the OSH offices to which they are assigned: Asheville, Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington or Winston-Salem. Workplace fatalities that have not been investigated by OSH (such as some heart attacks, vehicular fatalities, etc.) are not included in this report." Also includes the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Annual Comparison Report (Program Statistics).
