Dentistry: Request items not included in UNC's collections

Created by Health Science Librarians

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a service where you can borrow materials from other libraries when those items are not available in UNC's collection.

This service typically includes:

  1. Print books and other physical materials
  2. Electronic copies of journal articles
  3. Scans of book chapters or other documents

Interlibrary loan greatly expands the resources available to library users, allowing them to access a much wider range of materials than what's physically present in their local library. This service is available at no cost to UNC students, faculty, and staff.

First-time users will need to create an account using their Onyen and password.

Requesting Articles

When the Find @ UNC button leads you to a page informing you that "this item is not available in our online subscriptions", use the options under "Still Need Help?" to access the article.

  • Step 1: Select the "by title" link to see if the Libraries own a print copy of the journal. If it is available in print, you will have the article more quickly if you go to the library and scan or copy it yourself.
  • Step 2: Links you to a page where you can log in to your ILL account. It will then populate the ILL form with the information about the article. You will receive an email notification when your ILL request is filled. Articles get delivered electronically, generally within 2-3 business days.
