Overview

We partner across all stages of the research lifecycle. Here are a few ways we can support the research community:

  • Grant Preparation: We assist with finding funding sources and conducting background literature reviews for proposals.
  • Systematic Reviews: We partner on high-quality systematic reviews across all health fields and specialties, including clinical and health professions education topics.
  • Expert Literature Searching: We are experts at finding the information you need. We can also set up automatic alerts to keep you informed about new research in your field.
  • Increase Visibility: We consult on strategies to optimize your abstracts with the right keywords to ensure your research is easily found in popular databases.
  • Showcase Impact: We partner to quantify and visualize your research impact.

Grant Support

HSL Librarians support researches on grant preparation, from ideation to submission. Most often, we assist with background literature searches, finding funding opportunities, data management, and compliance with federal mandates.

Get Credit for Your Work

Increase the recognition and visibility of your research ensuring it's actually attributed to you. Use research identifiers to distinguish your work from other authors with similar names.

ORCID

ORCID is a unique identifier that definitively ties your scholarly work to you, and can help increase recognition of your research.

ORCID iD logo Create your ORCID iD & connect it with UNC. It's free and only takes a minute to register and connect.

  • Use your ORCID iD in manuscript submissions, grant applications, and more.
  • Increase visibility of your research by adding ORCID to your website, email signature, and publications.

ORCID is the most universal when compared with other unique author ID systems (i.e., ResearcherID from Thomson-Reuters and Scopus Author Identifier from Elsevier). It has been integrated with many major publishers including Thomson-Reuters and Elsevier, as well as NIH's SciENcv biosketch tool.

Citing & Writing

Citation Management Tools

The UNC HSL supports two citation managers, Sciwheel and Endnote. UNC provides free premium access to Sciwheel and it is easy to use. Endnote is a robust tool with advanced features, but takes longer to learn and, with the UNC discount, currently costs over $100. Sciwheel has all the functionality most users will need, but there are some instances where Endnote may be preferred. Contact us for more details on both products and for a suggestion on which is most suitable for your needs.
